Animal Shelter

You are welcome to post your lost animal pictures on our Facebook page and that of the Effingham County Humane Divisions Facebook page. You may also email us a photo for our board at animalshelter@effinghamcounty.org. Please keep in mind, while we do our best to watch for your pet, ultimately the responsibility falls on the owner. The best thing is to come in person and look for yourself. Your description may not be our vision. Thank You.

Mission Statement

To promote responsible animal ownership, prevent the spread of animal disease, protect the public from dangerous animals, and protect animals from dangerous humans.

Location

Our shelter is located on Highway 119 South, just off Highway 21 By-Pass. Call for directions if you are not familiar with the area.

Donations

We accept and appreciate all types of donations for our furry friends. We currently are in need of flea & tick prevention, bleach, laundry soap, dish soap, oil dry. The shelter has a separate account if you wish to do a monetary donation.  All monies in this account are used at the shelter only.

We do not have volunteers in the shelter due to us working with inmates.  You can volunteer by transporting animals to and from the Vet's office for us

Adoptions

Our adoption hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm and Monday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Due to the possibility of unforeseen emergencies, we suggest calling ahead before dropping off animals. Office and Kennels are closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Proof of Residency

Proof of Effingham County residency is required to drop off any animal.

Pets

The pets at our shelter are both strays and owner turn-ins. Strays must be kept a minimum of 3 days before they are available for adoption. Our pets are adopted to approved homes only.
