Spay / Neuter
- Unaltered animals may not be taken home on the day of adoption
- Upon adoption, an appointment will be scheduled by the shelter staff for pet’s spay / neuter. All animals are to remain at the shelter until their appointment date, after which they may be picked up by adopter from the clinic performing the operation. No animal is to leave the shelter before being altered - no exceptions.
- Additional expenses could be incurred during spay/neuter (I.E. if a female dog is in heat/pregnant or a male is cryptorchid). These will be at the expense of the owner and will not be covered by the shelter.
Heartworm
Animals will be heartworm tested upon being adopted (if age appropriate). If the animal is heartworm positive, the adopter will be notified and can opt to return the animal for a refund, exchange the animal, or continue with the adoption.Additional Services
If you would like to add additional services (pre-op blood work, pain medicine to go home, fecal testing, microchip, etc), please call the clinic performing the spay/neuter before your animal’s scheduled appointment and speak to them about pricing. Not Liable
Effingham County or the shelter cannot guarantee the health or temperament of this animal(s) and the Effingham County Animal Control shelter is therefore not responsible for any liability from actions or health of the adopted pet.-
