Geographic Information System (GIS)

Mission Statement


The mission of the Effingham County GIS Department is to provide, facilitate, train, and promote the use of professional Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to the citizens and administration of Effingham County in order to increase efficiency and productivity. It is our mission to provide community decision-making support services as a one-stop, easy to use system for all county agencies and citizens in order to protect public health, safety, and welfare.


What We Do


GIS is a tool that allows you to utilize geographic, social, economic, political, and environmental  information to answer practical questions. In conjunction with other departments, the GIS department strives to find dynamic and forward thinking solutions to fit the needs of Effingham County.


Service Areas


In coordination with other departments, the GIS department maintains and updates the following:

  • County Boundaries
  • Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Units
  • Fire Districts
  • Police districts and patrol areas
  • Property Line References
  • Railroads
  • Roads
  • Stream and River Lines
  • Utility Data
